About Our Program

Health care organizations need effective process improvement tools and methods to break out of their current state and drive to zero harm. Robust Process Improvement — blending Lean, Six Sigma, and change management — is a potent set of improvement tools that can help navigate the complex safety and quality problems within health care’s rapidly changing landscape.

For High Reliability Organizations, quality and safety are the responsibility of every employee. Arming your staff with highly effective ways to solve problems gives them some of what they need to exercise that responsibility.

The Yellow Belt certification program spreads basic RPI skills quickly and effectively among all your employee groups. The program is designed to offer foundational problem solving skills to all levels within an organization or augment your current Green Belt, Lean, Change Leader and Black Belt training programs by giving all employees the skills to improve their daily work so that RPI becomes the way they work.

Learning Objectives

Individuals will receive a certification that validates their understanding of foundational RPI concepts and how to apply improvement tools to solve problems in daily work. They will be able to work to improve processes within their area allowing them to contribute to the organization-wide goal of zero harm.

By having trained individuals, organizations can enhance quality and performance improvement efforts, increase the spread of significant improvements in clinical and non-clinical processes, and improve alignment and staff engagement in improvement initiatives with a common language and methodology.

As a team, our instructors and mentors bring the experience of the Joint Commission's innovative work with leading health care systems and hospitals to provide training and mentoring on high reliability concepts and the pursuit of zero harm, including Robust Process Improvement tools and methods. This experience comes from guiding health care providers exclusively in applying RPI principles to their own patient safety and quality processes, such as improving hand hygiene, improving emergency department turnaround times, or reducing medication errors, as well as operational processes, such as improving bed turnover times, reducing billing errors, or reducing staff turnover.
